Comments & ID Thoughts

I have asked chatgpt about it, and it says it could be Araneus or Neoscona, but honestly I don't know.

I think it is an eldery female whose abdomen has deflated after laying eggs
Not sure at all about the id …but I think it is in the genus Neoscona the following links are photos of 2 Neoscona spp found in Mexico…N crucifera and N. Neoscona orizabensis….
But there are many spiders in the genus Araneus …that I am unfamiliar with …in Mexico

Well there goes my notion that it is elderly and shrunken. I am afraid I don’t know enough about Mexican spiders to be sure what it is.
