Thank you. I wasn’t sure and I had never seen a spider like this before. She’s been on our backdoor frame for hours and hasn’t moved. I haven’t bothered her, figured she’ll move when she’s ready.
She has done her job for the year so she will likely die soon. Her eggs will survive the winter and hatch in the spring with a bit of luck. This is what the egg sac looks like. She may have laid them close by https://bugguide.net/node/view/719113
It may be an Araneus diadematus female whose abdomen has shriveled after lying eggs.
