It is an orb weaver….it may be a tropical orb weaver. They are very variable but some are orange like your spider…not sure though

I’m not sure either. Neoscona is the other best guess for genus. Maybe Neoscona crucifera. Julieann, If you have a photo of the spider’s topside it can be uploaded as a new image. https://bugguide.net/node/view/28154 The link is to info about N. crucifera. Neoscona domicilorium is possibly more common in Louisiana. It has two lines of black markings down it’s back. j
