Comments & ID Thoughts
I don't know if you keep track of sightings, but I have never seen a spider like this in 6 years of living in Bethany.
I believe it is a cross orb weaver, Araneus diadematus.
Collected 11/20/24 11pm
location 136 Hilldale Rd., Bethany
indoors in corner of carpeted stairs.
scale: 5cm, lengthwise, end tip of forward leg to end tip of rear leg.
Photo can be expanded for more detail.
I have released it to the outside.
PS: I did collect a Brown Widow spider a couple of years ago. Outdoors in corner between chimney and roof.

Fabulous photograph…this is actually a dark fishing spider…Dolomedes tenebrosus…and a particularly beautiful one.
I agree with Nod, these are cool spiders, big enough to intimidate people and they can be quick when spooked. I lost my photo of me holding one in my hand for size ref, it mostly covered the palm of my hand. Terrific looking spider you found.
