Comments & ID Thoughts

Is this a brown widow? I found it on the leaf of a potted plant in my yard

It’s definitely not a widow spider. It is a very pretty little female orb weaver with her egg sac . I don’t know which species she is…
Because she has just laid her eggs….her abdomen is shrunken and is out of shape.

TangledWeb

I identiified her as Araneus Marmoreus because of the intense orange in her markings, that other US Orbweavers don’t have and because her leg band markings, proximal to distal, are: red, black and white, black. A professor who volunteered for our site told me that the leg band color pattern is the constant for this species. I wonder if she’s monitoring her eggs for movements. Her pedipalps and all of her feet are in contact with the egg sac.
