Comments & ID Thoughts

This and its eggs were in my car :(
Hoping to know exactly what it is to know if it's venomous.
We did have the car treated.

The only spider that looks vaguely like that and has medically significant venom would be one of the widow spiders. And this is not a widow spider. So i am very confident that it is not dangerous. It looks like it could be one of the harmless little cobweb spiders. We are looking at the underside so I am not sure which one…it may be one of the common house spiders in the genus Parasteatoda perhaps…I am sure it is not dangerous but I am unsure of the exact id

It’s definitely not a spider with medically significant venom. The only ones in the US that have potentially dangerous venom are the Widows and Recluses. This spider is probably in the same family as the Widows, Theridiidae, but the venom isn’t dangerous. For now… Read more »

You are likely right…its one if those pictures that I can see both ways…facing up and facing down…I wonder about the legs though. Are they a bit spiky to be a cobweb spider. I am only looking at it on my phone so the picture isn’t clear

I tried moving the photo briefly to a website that has photo filters to use depth and contrast options. Then I took it off of the site. The things that look like hairs or spikes on the legs are in the background. The only photo editing option I have as the editor of the site is cropping. It’s crude and slow, so I don’t do it often. So….. I’m still not sure what this is.

Very useful
