I have no idea! And I know spiders! I never saw this in nature or in any of my ID books, and have not found it online, yet. I'm hoping you can help.

Not a spider I’m afraid. I am fairly sure is is a juvenile spotted lanternfly. An invasive species. I don’t know if you have to report this. As far as I know there is an effort ongoing to try to eradicate them

I think New Jersey was gathering sitings info, I don’t know if they still are. They are still worried about these insects. You should kill them when you see them. Generally it is advised to drown invasive insects in a container of soapy water. Smooshing could leave egg behind ( like with cockroaches ). I do swiftly crush invasive insects ( but not invasive slugs).
