Comments & ID Thoughts

I've asked Google Lens & they gave me 3 different spiders this could be; Brown Recluse, Funnel Weaver & Giant House Spider. This is a massive difference in spider & I'd like to know.

Not a recluse, this is a funnel weaver, possibly a house spider. I think you are too far south for giant house spider, but a remote possibility.

Cool web! Goldcord, Thanks for asking us. Google Lens doesn’t account for the location where the photo was taken. Even if it did, it doesn’t have the spider geography data ( yet). It works much better with the Plant Kingdom. The webs of funnel weaver spiders are interesting. They aren’t sticky. Some books say they are slippery, try tossing a bug into the web. Grasshoppers are especially interesting to observe in a funnel web. They can’t jump because the web is too loose and soft. Insects stumble on tbe silk and fall down the funnel to the spider. Common for them to fasion sort of a sail like web in corners, yes, the web is not sticky but very good at entangling insects. My desk spider made a messy web on my desk lamp and actually saw a couple flys get caught. Of course, thy were lunch.
