I found this spider crawling around on the floor in my office. The shape caught my eye, as it looks like a black widow. The colour is all wrong though - brown on the back and underside. About 1cm long.

Hi, you’re right, it is brown, so it isn’t a black widow. It is in the same family, Theridiidae, as a black widow, they are cobweaver spiders. It might be Steatoda paykulliana. They are far less venomous to humans.
