I have no idea what kind this is but it sure gave me a scare last night!
This is a fishing spider. not sure of species. i am sure knowing the species would not stop the screaming because they are quite large. this one didn’t want to be in your basement. they like water and can actually stand on the water and hunt for small minnows and bugs. hope she made it out alive.
on second look this could be a Carolina Wolf spider because of the tan stripes. generally only slightly smaller than the fishing spider with the body .75″-1″ long. standing it will fill your hand. these do bite , they do come indoors to hunt and are very fast.
This one actually stayed in the same spot for quite some time. Is either of those poisonous?
most north American spiders have venom, but most are not dangerous unless you are allergic. a bite can cause a nasty sore that eventually heals. this spider is there to hunt prey insects and needs a small amount of moisture to be happy.
