Comments & ID Thoughts

Found this beauty while walking in the woods in York County, SC. Web was 4ft in diameter. Assuming a type of orb spider. Solid black legs.

Gold silk orb weaver, I believe a Joro spider, nice find.

Wow! Yes this is a Joro, the leg markings in the species are quite variable. https://bugguide.net/node/view/2494349/bgimage If my link works, it will show a Joro with black legs. Walking in the woods of South Carolina was my American Spider Safari high point! Sure, I’ve only looked along the East Coast….but it was awesome, spiders everywhere! And lots of other cool life forms that I don’t see in the north.

BugmanDan

I envy you.
