Comments & ID Thoughts
I found this in my yard while planting an herb garden for my rabbit. I have never been able to identify it. It looks like the Australian funnel web spider but this spider was massive ! Its body was at least 1.5 to 2 inches across and 3.5 to 4 inches long with a massive leg span . It reared up and its fangs were were large. Needless to say the herb garden came to an abrupt end because there was no way I’d let my bunny play in an area with a spider that big. I live in Horn Lake, Ms. This spider was tarantula sized

Definitely looks to be a trapdoor spider. They are not dangerous to humans, even if they can look a bit intimidating. (:
A trap door spider, although a bite can be quite painful, they are not toxic to humans.
That rearing up posture is their defensive stance, not a good time to be poking a finger at it.
