Comments & ID Thoughts
Found in the back corner of the kitchen in a large web between the wall and a kitchen storage cabinet. It was startled by the noise of me putting away a pot and actually flinched in its web which was interesting. I think this looks like Pholcus spider of some sort, image search suggests Pholcus phalangioides, a long-bodied cellar spider.

Yep, long bodied cellar spider, probably the most common house spider in the world.
Seastarspider, they do have an interesting startle reaction of moving erratically in their web to scare predators. There’s spinning around involved. Mine seem to become accustomed to people disturbing them. Cellar Spiders are a great example of a synanthropic type of animal . They benefit from living with and around us.
I think before I could walk, I would sit in a corner with a cellar spider, gently touch them and they gyrate in their web, likely trying to make themselves invisible.
My mother would wonder why I was laughing and of course she would tell me to quit playing with spiders. (as if I would listen)
That’s so cool! I didn’t realize that the sudden movement was a behaviour to scare away predators. I’m glad I included that detail in my post so I could learn about it.
