Orb? Can I move her inside my shop for the winter? She’s in a vulnerable spot in the doorway. Shop is only heated occasionally in winter. I’m Ok with a massive hatch in Spring. I can leave the doors open then.

Araneus gemmoides, a catface spider, you can move her indoors, but probably lay eggs the die, the eggs will be fine over winter, then hatching early spring. I would let the shop stay cold, too warm, the eggs will hatch out of season and likely have no survivors.
Her web is interesting. It has multiple layers. It looks like she had difficulty adhearing attachment points to the bumpy material and did it a few times to compensate. I haven’t seen an orb web quite like before. Jcosmoasp, The spiderlings will disperse by “ballooning.” They won’t all stay. Ballooning is an interesting way that baby spiders can fly for miles using the conditions of the atmosphere.
Thanks. I will move her to the coldest spot inside and keep track of what happens. Where she is now is not good and I want the best chance for her offspring.
