I’m not sure but might be an Araneid?

That was my first thought. The face is weird though. I used Google Lens for a hint and I think it worked, I think this is a Bolas Spider. They’re known for having “ugly faces.” They do a cool thing to hunt. They make a gooey sticky ( venomous?) glob and swing it like a bolas weapon and smack the prey. They prey gets stuck to the bolas. Woah. I knew bolas spiders had weird faces but I’ve never seen one like that iNat observation! Wow. Thanks for sharing!

I think they’re also called Ogre Spiders. The snout with eyes is a a really special look. 🙂 I’ll delete this in a few days so that it doesn’t mess up our Colorado sightings. I’ll also ask Kyle, our Admin to remove other continents from the site and make it more clear that the site is only geared toward US and Canada.

I’ve never heard of bolas spiders being called ogre spiders. There is a distinct family, Deinopidae, called “Ogre-faced spiders”.

I sent the request (below) to Kyle and also requested that we don’t ask for photo cropping in the future because the background is useful to the IDs. I can crop with the moderator/editor controls if I want to. I also requested that our site recommends certain alternative sites for foreign IDs. I’ve seen SpiderID listed as recommended on other sites. W should pass on the favor.
BTW, I used Duckduckgo as a browser, it said my password to this site has leaked and needs to be changed. We should probably all to do that.
