It was hunting at 1 am. It was not aggressive even when scooted away from our door. It had been raining all day. I’m not sure if that matters. It was quick to use its web to quickly get away from my slipper. It’s movement speed was rather quick. I originally thought it to be a yellow sac spider but the abdomen is a different shape. My mom thinks it’s a barn spider but I’m not too sure. I wanna be sure this spider is not dangerous because I have kids. I don’t like killing things so if it is dangerous, and if I find it again, I will move it to a safer location.

Hi, your spider was shaped like an orbweaver, possibly Araneus displicata. Barn spiders is one of the common names for them. It’s up to you if you want to tell your mother that she was right. 😉 Many people who find larger spiders in their houses or on the door step mention that it had been raining a lot. Orbweavers aren’t considered dangerous. I haven’t been bitten by one, the general concensus is that it isn’t quite as bad as a wasp sting.
