Hi, this spider was probably Argiope trifasciata, a banded garden spider. They generally have black, white and yellow stripes on the abdomen but the colors seem to wear off or get chipped, leaving the silver layer exposed. They are a type of orbweaver spiders, meaning that they make big round webs.
