We found another one of these without the back markings and I believe it could have been the adult mother because I found 3 of these in our home along with lots of other spider. (We just moved in) The other spider was found (same day) was in our closet (basement) corner web with 3 dead spiders in the web and it was the only spider that resembled a black widow and it was alive.
Hi, I think this is a Triangulate Cobweaver, Steatoda triangulosa. They are in the same family, Theridiidae, as black widows but they are far less venomous to humans. This species is named for the marking that runs down the abdomen that looks like a line a triangles touching each other. Their web is a true cobweb, it is messy-looking and tends to gather dust. They’ll try to stay out of your way. They can’t see well and they prefer dark places where they can hunt insects and other spiders.
