Comments & ID Thoughts
I’ve spotted this inside of my garage detached garage at 5:05am. I realize that it’s a terrible photo, as I was just too fearful of getting close. The picture doesn’t do it much justice, but it was the largest spider I’ve seen in a PORTLAND suburban area. Looking through the other pics, it looked just like a Giant House Spider; however, the other sightings (being in April and May only) lead me to believe that it’s not. It was 97 degrees today (approximately 66 when I spotted it). Lastly, it is impossible to tell by the photo, but looking at it from the side revealed that it had a thick body, and somewhat thick legs, which became thinner towards the ends. It was a dark-brown/grayish looking creature with no other visible markings.

Funnel web Spider is my guess. I just saved 3 in the last week by relocating from in my home to an outdoor home. The picture is kind of far to be certain but it’s a good guess.
Boy, I sure hope not! Thank you for replying though. However, I did manage to find one today that was on a Terro trap; however, I cannot be certain this is the same one.
Funny web spiders are gentle and not aggressive at all. I handle the bare handed so you have nothing to worry about. They help keep insect populations from getting out of control so please try to see them as helpers versus a threat. Good luck!!
Hi. what I see is certainly a funnel web spider. If I presume that Terro trap the large one, this is likely a female giant house spider. Smaller, say less than 1.5 inches across the legs, a domestic house spider or hobo spider. All 3 are just as harmless as spiders come, not the bad guys at all.
A young lady can tell you about her pet:

When you mentioned that it was a funnel web spider — were you referring to my other photo at https://spiderid.com/picture/40171 ?
Hi. Bad name here, not talking the dangerous Australian spider, correct name is funnel weaver, Agelenidae family, grass spiders,European house spiders etc, all are very harmless. Here is a Hololena spider, like small grass spider, lived his life right here on my desk lamp. Not once a nuisance, his worst, his messy web, bu look a all he flies and gnats he caught: https://www.flickr.com/photos/32083154@N02/8096669530/in/dateposted/ Got to watch him grow from tiny, I have a few hundred more on my spider bush. No, your other photo is a funnel weaver also, Eraigena duellica, a giant house spider, about as harmless as spiders… Read more »
