I have found about a dozen of these spiders in my home. One on the roof in my bedroom (no web), one hanging out in a web in the kitchen on the roof, one on my kitchen counter, one in my bathtub, one on my kids stuffed animal, one on the floor in my kids bathroom, etc. They dont move very fast and are easy to capture. Hi there! Full disclosure : I am NOT an expert, nor do I have any extra / specific knowledge on spiders. With that said, I honestly believe I know what kind of spider that is, and as a general rule I’m NEVER this certain about things I’m a ‘layman’ in; I could be completely wrong though, so definitely do some triple-checking. LoL! I believe it is a : Southern House Spider. Interestingly enough, this spider is most commonly mistaken for a brown recluse, so you were definitely on the right track for sure! I agree, a male southern house spider. They are considered totally harmless by arachnologist, not known to bite.
Often mistaken for brown recluse spiders, their protruding pedipalps helps identify these.
