You are right. This is a banana spider or golden silk orbweaver, Nephila clavipes

Strayed

The identity is correct, however, I feel it important to correct a detail about it being “harmless.” The golden-silk orb-weaver is an invasive species from South America, they are NOT harmless. They have a venom very similar to the black widow, but not as potent. It’s not lethal, but it has the same neurotoxic effect. If you are bit, you won’t die provided you don’t have an allergic reaction to it, but you should most definitely seek medical attention.
