I believe this is most likely the Araneus illaudatus
(Texas Orb-weaver). I live in Las Vegas New Mexico above the town in the mountains. She has been living in the doorway for several weeks and now has it appears a baby hatchling; I have only seen one. Her web is now very disorderly as apposed to the beautiful bug "dream catcher" web she had for weeks. I was afraid she might be hungry as I have not seen her eat in a couple of weeks. I caught a water bug for her and she wrapped the poor guy up but he remains suspended at the botton wriggling to escape. Is she concerned that her baby might be harmed by it or is he simply in her "pantry" for later? Susan

Hi, she might be Araneus illaudatus, I wonder if her lack of color markings is related to her ill health.
