I don’t know what it is but there is one across my sliding glass doorway at night. It is large-ish, the body is fat, about the size of a quarter, and the web looks like a stereotypical spider web. Clever to choose that location because insects are drawn to the house lights coming through the glass. It pulls down or rebuilds its web every night then pulls it up and disappears or hides in the morning. Hi, I can’t see enough of the spider to ID the species. She is an adult orbweaver. Your observations are very thorough. Yes, they build webs in porch light locations for an easy lure and trap operation. The tree cricket-type prey is a good catch. She is wide from eating prey and/or the maturing eggs within her. Spider abdomens are quite stretchy. I would use the word “stereotypical” to describe their webs too. They look like the spiderweb emoji. Orbweavers eat their webs in the morning and rebuild them.
