Artema Atlanta (Daddy Long Legs Spider)
It’s hard to tell but this spiders legs are folded and bent as if it’s resting on its knees. Therefore those aren’t shadows underneath the legs. The legs are about twice as long as they appear. I found this spider dying on my kitchen floor and this is the spiders last few minutes of life. That’s is why the spider doesn’t have good posture and is resting on its knees. I believe this is the Artemis Atlanta based on other photos I’ve seen. The black dashes on each legs around the knees are the same length and the same distance… Read more »
Hi, since it was dying, bad posture can be forgiven. Yes, it appears to be Artema Atlanta. I don’t think it is a spider known for having medically significant venom. Most spiders have some venom that they use to kill their prey. In general, if you avoid direct skin contact with pressure against the spider the spider won’t need to bite you to keep you from accidentally squishing it. These don’t look like spiders that can easily get inside your clothes and not be noticed. I wouldn’t worry about it.
