Picture of unidentified spider

Comments & ID Thoughts

Hey Everyone, I took this picture in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. We have a lot of Black widows here but I have never seen one with a stripe on the back. My first Google search brought up the Redback widow from Australia. Is it possible it could be a Redback that somehow made it's way to Canada. Any help with identifying this spider would be great!

Northern black widow.

Registered to answer you. I’m also searching web for the same I found in Oliver. May be a red back spider? Find them in Australia etc, but not here. Finding black widows in same house. Also found a false black widow in my house in pitt meadows. Only see them in Australia and UK. Where do we find out for sure?

Hi. your location dictates northern black widow, Latrodectus variolus species.
Sub adult and juvenile widows often have the red stripe or spots, possibly some whites and yellow patterns.

These will still have the nefarious red hourglass pattern on the ventral abdomen.
