Don’t know what kind of spider this is but it was hanging out on the outside basement doors. Live in the country so there is a lot of different kinds we come across including black widows. Where this pic was taken , there is no outside lights and etc that might attract flies and other insects, so just looking for answers as we do have nieces and nephews that come out to play .
Possibly Neoscona oaxacensis. It is an orbweaver kind of spider. It isn’t dangerous. The kids should know that spiders are very sensitive to being touched or feeling trapped. Those things can cause a spider to bite to protect itself. Orbweavers are web spiders that prey on flying insects. Without outdoor lights attracting insects they might be there because of grasshoppers/crickets/katydids or a beetle infestation of some plants. To catch beetles they wrap their webs around infested plants like a cage to keep the prey available while they eat as many as they can.
