Union, CT - in an old dead tree that fell, prob the size of 2 quarters put together.

Dark fishing spider, Dolomedes tenebrosus, I think.
Thank you, was thinking wolf, but I can see that. I was near a big lake too if that makes a difference.
It’s most likely a Fishing spider, considering that you found it near a lake. Also I notice that wolf spiders tend to keep their front and rear legs together— which is not the case here
