Comments & ID Thoughts

I am wondering what type of spider this is, I am in Canada and it ran out from under my recliner chair. I tried to Google it but no photo I saw that would have matched it had the same lower body shape as the spider I came across.

Hi, welcome to SpiderID. You found a kind of Ground Spider, Sergiolus montanus.

(Note to administrator, we’re still working out some bugs … no pun intended, haha.) For some reason after attempting to correct the location the site now has it listed as “AlabamaSaskatchewan” … species page needed for Sergiolus montanus.

They are not considered to be of medical concern. They have no reason to bite unless they are trapped against the skin or feel threatened. For spiders similar to this I usually just place a cup over them and gently slide a stiff piece of paper underneath to catch them and release them outside.

Bug has been fixed. Thank you for finding it!
