Araneus saevus that’s not doing too well at all. Very malnourished.

No A. gemma in Alaska so far. This is one of the less seen morphs of A. saevus. Compare images on bugguide.net

You make a good point. We do have Alaska sightings for A.saevus. So, I agree it is likely. I’ll ask for a third opinion.
