Comments & ID Thoughts

This has been guarding our tomatoes. It seems to go away for a good part of the day and resign to it's web early evening.

Hi. this is one of the Araneus genus orb weavers, very harmless. Normal for them to hide during the day, come dusk, making one of those fancy orb webs. Garden is a perfect place for them.

TangledWeb

Hi, it’s female. The female orbweavers make the big round webs and sometimes stay in the center of them. The males make little silk beds for themselves and might use a bit of silk in capturing an insect. If a male orbweaver is on a web like this he’s just there for some quick mating. He’ll stay near the edge to make an escape in case the female tries to kill him. The females are also much larger than the males. Yours isn’t very big yet in the photo.
