This appears to be a female Yellow and Black Garden Spider (Argiope aurantia)
Yes that is what I believed it to be. I read that they were normally much smaller. I believe that I read 1.5 inches. This spider was about 4.5 inches. Next week I will try to photograph it with a tape measure. The spider has been in the same location for several weeks. How do you tell the difference between sexes?
Hi.well, they are not what would be small spiders, never saw one that big,maybe 3 inches.
