Comments & ID Thoughts

This nasty thing was in my kiddos bedroom, the closet to be exact. We have lived here a year and a half and during that time it seems this is the only spot that I spot spiders. I’ve found probably 6-8 spiders here since moving here. Is it poisonous? What is it? And why are they attracted to this area of my home? How can I get rid of them?

Hi, welcome to SpiderID. 🙂 You found a Wolf Spider (Lycosidae), maybe Hogna lenta. Hard to be sure with the state it’s in. They’re not really an “indoor” sort of species. I’d look to see if there are any gaps between the floor and walls, around the foundation etc. and fill them if you are seeing too many. They’re not considered to be of medical significance. I love spiders but I wouldn’t want these guys running loose in my closet either.
