Length of abdomen makes me very unsure about this orbweaver ID, seeking help.

That’s interesting. The abdomen is throwing me off too, male Araneus, I think judging by the tubercles. A. saevus crossed my mind, but it looks off. It might help to see what sort of females are hanging around. A ventral might help too.
In a moment I’ll post a photo of Araneus diadematus (ID’d for me by Dr. Rovner) for comparison – the two have distinctly the same overall shape, from my POV anyway, and in the photo to come, the cross is hard to make out. That photo and the present photo were taken years apart, but in the same vicinity of the back door of our house.
