I see a lot of these spiders on our walk through the mountains to our swimming spot. One of my friends is arachnophobic and is wondering what kind of spider this is and if it is venomous. I am wondering if it is just a really big garden spider….
Hi. this is one of your Nephila genus spiders, Gold silk spider
Just a good size garden orb weaver, Not dangerous,their venom is no worse than a bee sting.
Quite docile, I see children holding them at bug fairs.
Eastern Europe corners the market for these, not familiar with all your species or know their temperaments.
This one is called joro spider or fortune teller spider, Nephila clavata species:
