Comments & ID Thoughts

This is an Argiope Aurantia (Black and Yellow Garden Spider). It is most likely a female. We noticed these spiders in abundance last summer (2017). They do a great job of keeping the fly, mosquito, and Japanese beetle populations down. We are fascinated by how quickly they grow and how pretty their webs are. We have spotted 11 egg sacs so far this fall, and we are looking forward to seeing some of them hatch next year, hopefully!

Gorgeous. Have these occasionally in my yard. I think they are really cool.
