Comments & ID Thoughts

Daphne, the yellow & black garden spider. AKA: Argiope aurantia. Discovered her a few days ago in my garden with an incredibly strong web around my tomato plant. Today she has an egg sac. According to everything I've read, they will hatch in the "fall" and scatter. She won't live to see them hatch. Makes me sad, as I've grown rather fond of her. But I would like to get the rest of my tomatoes. Though she is supposed to be harmless unless she feels threatened, I just don't think I want to try to pick the tomatoes.

You can always drop the stick and run 😉 I don’t think the spiderlings scatter in Autumn though they may hatch and begin developing. They’re okay with freezing temperatures when they’re very young. It is possible for her to live long enough into… Read more »
