Large spider
The spider jumped when disturbed and headed towards underbrush. It was warm and humid that day and had been for several days. The spider was located on the brick column of a house. The photo colors are accurate. I would like help in its ID.
That is a beautiful Argiope aurantia (Black and Yellow Garden Spider). They make big orb webs with a zigzag pattern in them. Males are much smaller than females. I think this is a female.
Thanks, I didn’t know. The B&Y was very intimidating. When I disturbed her she took a great leap towards me before she sped away. We have had a great many and varied spiders this year.

This one is indeed female, so keep an eye out for egg sacs! They are essentially harmless to humans, but sometimes the females bite if they think you’re threatening their eggs. 🙂
