I believe this is a black and yellow garden spider. Found her in a pine tree next to my garden feeding on a grasshopper in her web. Her body is 2.5 to 3 inches in length.

Yes, she’s Argiope aurantia. They are good at catching grasshoppers, their webs are strong enough to hold big flying insects.
