This spider has been identified as Dolomedes tenebrosus, The Dark Fishing Spider.I love spiders & try to supply flies & meal worms to my summer time ‘Charlettes’. This spider had a basic web. Not like some of the others that are so intricut. I see these quite often. Just want to learn more.
Hi. No,this is not a fishing spider, this is an orb weaver, Araneidae family. Looks Araneus genus, but lighting makes this uncertain. Wait til dusk, she may make one of those fancy webs for you.
Yea, I am known to feed them also, even had a video in production how to keep these indoors like pets.
This is a dark fishing spider, https://bugguide.net/node/view/577443
Only webs are their nursery web. Fast if spooked, I used to make challenge of catching them by hand. Think keeping, these do well in captivity. There are keeping guides for these online.
