Believe it to be a false black widow of some sort, it didn't have any markings on its underside. Taking a look at pictures on this site, it looks like a Steatoda grossa

It's completely black in color with a few "dimples" on the top of its abdomen.

It was found inside in our living room. The web was on the inside leg of the couch and the spider was found on near it on our carpet.

We were able to pick it up without killing it and examined it to be sure we didn't see any tell-tail widow markings.

Hi, agree with your identification. The dimples are helpful for identifying an animal that’s just blackish brown. Thank you for not killing it.
