Cat-Faced or Jewel Spider. Not a tiny little spider, at least 2-3inches. This was found in a garage with its web spread out in front of a window. Has not moved for over 2 weeks but she moved upon prodding. Apparently she will die after the first frost, but her egg sack will hatch in spring. Has lots of insects in her web. Relatively harmless,low toxicity, good helper for removing garden pests, just doesn't know if he wants alot of these growing up on his property! Are these a common species Minnesota. Suggestions for removal please.

Hi, yes this is one of the more common orbweaver spiders in your state. When the spiderlings are developed enough to go out on their own they will spread out to new places. It wouldn’t be beneficial for them to compete with each other or mate with each other. Young spiders can travel by putting out a strand of silk that catches air currents.
