I found this guy floating on n my basement fish pond this morning, I’m not jumpy and screamy over spiders,but this guy would have been squashed ( sorry) if I had seen him alive, I never saw a spider like this before in my house,

Hi, it is Dysdera crocata. Their fangs are huge relative to the size of their bodies. Mechanically the fangs work best for pinching rounded insects like pillbugs. They don’t work as well on a flatter plane like our skin. It’s like trying to grab the flat plane of a sheet of cardboard with salad tongs. They are attracted to moist dark places where their prey are found (where you would find centipedes or millipedes). So, it makes sense that it would smell water in your basement and go to it.
