Taken in northern Davenport Iowa. I just want to know if I need to get rid of it. 2 small children and 2 dogs.

No, that’s a female of one of the Orb Weavers in the family Araneidae. They are quite harmless, except to flying insects.

It’s for sure a spotted orb weaver. Neoscona crucifera.
