My son found this spider, I’m trying to teach him that spiders are cool and interesting not scary and I think identifying this would help.
Hi. These are very harmless orb weavers in the Araneidae family. This one looks to be a spotted orb weaver, Neoscona genus, female, perhaps Hentz orb weaver, Neoscona crucifera species.
If she hides by day, just be watchful aroun usk when she comes out an make her web, Hard to beat watching that.
Perhaps with a pair of tweezers, put an insect like moth, earwig, or cricket in her web and observe.
Thank you so much for the info, I’ll keep an eye on her.
Hi, this is a Cross Orb-weaver, Araneus diadematus. 🙂
