I believe this is a dark fishing spider, Dolomedes tenebrosus. I found it outside my door on the mailbox. It sounds like it's not as common to see in September, but it's a really humid night with rain on the way.

Hi, this looks like a Dolomedes tenebrosus to me also. We may just have fewer sightings in September because people spend less time doing recreational activities near water in Autumn. If the people aren’t where the spiders are there isn’t as many sightings. I participated in some citizen science projects last year keeping track of my sightings of certain types of animals. The sightings map looked like my neighborhood was buried in the animals and they didn’t live anywhere else.
