Comments & ID Thoughts

I was wondering if anybody knew what type of spider this was. When you walked up towards it it would stick up its front legs like it was trying to scare you away. Its body was the size of a quarter. It sort of looked like a tarantula.

Hi, this is an Orbweaver (Araneidae), likely Araneus sp.. I’d need a clearer more dorsal shot to say with certainty which exact one. They’re not suited for defending themselves on the ground, they don’t see very well and are typically timid.
