This is one of the Spotted Orb-weavers (Neoscona). Hentz Orb-weaver (Neoscona crucifera) is most common. 🙂

Yes, that looks right. This is very likely a mature female.
What indicates it to be a female?
Immature males can look like females – heading towards winter in a region that gets cold though an Orb-weaver with a big abdomen alone in a web is likely going to be a mature female. Mature males are built differently with proportionally smaller abdomens and longer legs and if you see one in a web it’s likely going to be in the web with a female. Males stop building webs when they reach maturity and instead spend their energy searching for females.
