Picture of unidentified spider

Comments & ID Thoughts

I believe this is a Nephila clavata(Joro spider) that I took a picture of in 2014 in my yard. The only difference in this one and the one I see in my yard now are the markings on the legs.

Hi, I looked at photos of Joro spiders, Nephila clavata, and I see what you mean. Some have big yellow leg bands and others have totally black legs. I didn’t see a trend by age of gender. Orbweaver spiders, like these can have a great amount of individual variation in color and markings. I didn’t find any references to the leg differences. It is a good question, thanks for asking!
