Black Widow located in Northside, Cincinnati OH
She was on our kitchen window outside. Arrived on October 1st. I watched her for a week until I finally this morning saw her abdomen which had the red hourglass. I also believe I saw a deceased male widow in her web- this is why she was out and easy to see this morning. We collected her and transported her to a nearby forest area.

I really can’t tell from the photo. Hopefully someone else might have a guess.

Thanks for the extra photo. I think your ID as a black widow is right. Ohio has both Northern and Southern black widows. Bugguide.net says that the Southern has an intact hourglass mark and the Northern is more likely to look like a “broken” hourglass. I haven’t studied widow spiders, my perception is that the mark looks intact. I just learned this month that the state where I was raised has black widows. I’m not going to tell my mother, she’s scared of regular house spiders. No need to cause alarm. 😉
