I found this fella in my door jamb. The round abdomen was easily the size of a dime. I’ve never seen a spider this large! Please help me identify it!
Hi, it’s actually large because it is female. Female spiders continue to grow longer in their development than males do. They have an abdomen that stretches to hold large amounts of food and/or the developing egg mass.
This is an orbweaver spider. The colors can vary. She may be Araneus gemma.
